The Langeberg Municipality in partnership with the Western Cape Government Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport hosted its second Big Walk event at the Happy Valley Sports Field in Bonnievale on Sunday, 04 October 2015.

The aim of the event was to promote healthy exercise while bringing Langeberg communities together.

Bus-loads of children from the surrounding schools came to join in on the fun.The event focused on a range of walks from a 5km walk for children, families with babies in prams and dog walkers to longer distances for the fit and athletic.

After Councillor R.Kortje welcomed all participants a scripture reading was done by Mr. M. du Toit from the South African Police Services and the race was started by Mayor ALD. D.Gagiano.

182 participants took to the streets of Bonnievale passing beautiful scenery of vineyards and crossing the Breederiver. Participants enjoyed the walk in good weather and on completion, everyone received a medal, goodie bag and a food parcel.

The Langeberg Municipality would like to thank the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport for making the event possible. The kind sponsorships received from Coca Cola for the final water point and the educational art and crafts activities from Tower Kids, also contributed greatly to the success of the event.
